My view of the concert.
They were grown adults, in the front rows, standing in the middle of their rows to film their kid for the entire concert, with no regard whatsoever for anyone behind them. I would have tapped people and told them to sit except there was such a large number of offenders that it would have been futile. (But still a minority--it's not like the whole audience decided to stand). I couldn't see Charlie at all, no matter how I tried to scoot around my row. I didn't mind not seeing him nearly as much as I was irritated with people who behave like this in group settings. Where is the decency? Is this what the world is coming to? It fills my heart with rage.

Grrrr!
I had to read this to my husband, it annoyed me so much.
You should have tapped those parents on the shoulder afterward and said "can i get a copy of that video since I missed the whole thing? great thanks. love ya."
you should talk to whoever was in charge of the concert. Hopefully for the next one they can announce before the concert that if you would like to videotape that you move to the side of the auditorium. That's what they do in our school and it really helps. I have also really tried to just live in the moment. Sometimes it is nice to just listen to the concert and take a picture afterward for the memory.
Human decency is thin on the ground at children's concerts! I once tapped the adults standing in front of me at a school concert on the shoulder to asked them to sit down ... Only to find out it was the towns mayor ! On a positive note my state is half under water and flooded right now with devesration everywhere ... And night after night on the news we see people helping others, cleaning up other peoples houses and donating time , food and energy to help strangers. Be great if it didn't take a natural disaster for society to come together . Have a great day. Ex
Oh, so you had to pull the old "watch the concert through the person's iphone in front of you" move. Yup, SO ANNOYING.
That was Stephanie by the way.
People are the worst!
If I were a cop, I could have gone all Stabler on them for you. Perhaps you should rethink your stance on my career path.
PS--my personal fave is the kid hoisted up the highest.
I find there is no decency when it comes to people and their kids. We have lots of parents, who are normally very nice, lose their minds when it comes to hurrying to drop off and pick up their kids at school. One of the teachers said today "And they wonder why their kids think the rules don't apply to them!"
I would have barked "Down in front!" until people sat. I lost faith in humanity years ago watching grown ass adults fighting for samples at Costco. It's thunderdome out there..there are no rules.
I have completely embarrassed myself in audience situations and found it didn't make me feel any better. Now I grumble to myself and try to get over it. However, at the last 2 elementary schools I have not had a problem with this.
Blog stalker here! Had to chime in on this one.
At my brother's 8th grade promotion, we ran into the exact same situation. Except my dad did what Brooke suggested - "Down in front!" was yelled the entire time the students walked across the stage. And since our last name is toward the end of the alphabet, there was a lot of yelling going on before my brother made his appearance. That was back in the day when you didn't have to worry about getting shot if you put someone in their place.
You need to take lessons from your sister, the Brookie. But instead of yelling "down in front!" (based on the photo) you should have yelled, "down you fat asses in the front!" (well, about the time you are ready to move out of the school district)
In the words of Brooke, "Damn, that's annoying."
I wait lack of common courtesy. No body wants to watch those kiddie videos on youtube anyway.
That's "hate" and not "wait."
PS- Obviously multiple recordings of that damn concert on youtube, so now you can watch it.
The same thing happened to us this summer in Vancouver, BC. After we sat patiently on the beach for hours along with thousands of families awaiting a fireworks display,at the last minute people who had been doing other things instead of securing a spot to sit squeezed between the seated spectators to stand and watch. Fortunately enough people yelled at them and they moved (in front of someone else??)
I suggest whipping out your camera and filming the Fat A**es and posting it for the world to see...wait, guess you just did.
the comments are just as funny as your post! My kids school is very strict with this kinda thing, they make numerous announcements before the start of plays/graduations/etc. "stay in your seats" "don't stand on the side aisles" "if you wanna take pictures you have to stand in the back" and for the most part people listen!
I need a post on Max's monkey party stat!
It was the most annoying. People are the worst. I agree with Tyler. I repeat that sentence multiple times throughout each day. I especially dislike the people who lack respect for others and who feel that they are the only ones there to watch their children. Super irritating.
I have two excuses I always give to make myself feel better when surrounded by idiots: "People are dumb." or "People are weird." Most people usually fall into one of those categories. But "down you fat asses in the front" works, too.
These comments are gold. I appreciate Elizabeth's a lot.
I don't know how I missed this post. Nothing enrages me more than not being able to see my child in a performance. I just sit there with my heart pounding and anger almost coming out. I've said stuff before but it never works and you always look like a dummy. Some parents are ridiculous!!!
